It’s not uncommon to get into a rut with your fitness program. Whether you run, take classes, swim, walk or ride your bike there are days when we don’t push quite as hard as we should or cut 10 or 15 minutes from our workout or even (gasp) skip it altogether.
We’re all human and bad workout days happen. The problem lies when you struggle more often than not to get your tushie out the door or you are constantly feeling uninspired and unmotivated. This, my friend is no bueno.
So here’s some tips to help you channel your inner bad-ass and snap out of your rut!
Set a challenge. Run for 30 days, challenge yourself to walk 10,000 steps a day for one week, do two-a-day runs or walks once or twice a week, bike, swim, run (or walk) for three days and then repeat for three more cycles. Follow the 100 pushup plan to, well, do 100 pushups. The key is to make it something that will require commitment, dedication, and some extra effort.
Try something new. If you walk, go for a run. If you do the elliptical at the gym, find some stairs to walk or run instead. Want to get outside? Grab some friends in the a.m. and venture to a local park – set up a few stations to do pushups, lunges, squats and some cardio blasts. If you’re just looking for something different, check out the wide variety of exercises on OnDemand or the Dish Network.
Get fired up. Attack your workouts with purpose and intensity. Spin harder than you normally do, add sprint intervals, lift heavier weights (pinky swear ladies, you will NOT turn into the Hulk). Find your inner warrior and let her shine through. You won’t be sorry.
Now go run!
