Cheers to all of you badasses that are re-organizing and cleaning your houses. You are amazing!
For the other 99% of us, here are some simple hacks. Each task takes 5 minutes or less and even if you accomplish ONE per day, you’ll be able to pat yourself on the back with a self-satisfied smirk.
Make Your Bed. Listen, that there have been books written about the productivity benefits of making one’s bed so just do it already. Even if you have lots of throw pillows and multiple blankets (and cats to move off the bed every time you fluff the covers) this will take you less than 5 minutes. And trust and believe your day will markedly improve.
Post-Shower Shine. After you shower take the towel and wipe down the shower door, the mirrors, swipe the counters, swirl it around the sink and finally the top of the toilet tank. Please do that last. Then drop that towel in the laundry. Actually, bury it deep. Because I’ll admit that if I’m down to one towel in the bathroom I’ll dig one out as a head towel. #noshameinmygame
Clear the Counters. Next time you’re in the kitchen cleaning up after making a meal. (Ok, is it just me, or do you all feel that you’re cooking a lot these past few weeks?) Sorry, I digress. Back in the kitchen. Set a timer for 4 minutes and clear the kitchen counters of non-cooking or non-food stuffs. Phone chargers in a drawer, cookbooks back in their spot, dishes away, spices in their home, etc. With the final minute sponge or towel down the counters. But don’t use the same towel that you used in the bathroom.
A Tidy Goodbye. When you leave a room, tidy it up. Even if you’re walkig from the living room into the kitchen, which technically, is attached. Fold the blanket, put the remote away, take your glass, cup, empty wine glass or bottle of beer or plate with you. Finally, plump the pillows and pet the cat(s) as you leave.
Empty the Basket. I can and have left folded laundry in a basket for weeks on end. But when I take a few minutes to actually put my clothes away I just feel so much better and more organized. Next time you cart the basket back to your room, keep going and unpack your baggage (so to speak) and high five yourself.
Ok, there you have it. Five hacks that take less than 5 minutes each to complete. You’re welcome. And you deserve a nap.
Now go run!
