It’s all fine and dandy to set a goal, map out a plan and march forward. Figuring out what you want to do is important. But do you know your “why”?
Your “why” is the reason you are going to put forth all of the time, energy, and effort to even start on the journey towards reaching your goals in the first place. So it’s kind of a big deal.
Identifying your “why” is what will get you out of a warm cozy bed at 4:30am for a run or to make sure you hit the gym on vacation or the reason you are going to bed early on a Saturday night because you have a 12 mile training run the next day.
So take a minute to brainstorm your “why”.
What got me through my last marathon were actually two “whys”. The first one was to hit 10 marathons before I turned 50 and number two was to PR on that race. So as the plan progressed and I was tired or had to do a 12 mile run on a Thursday morning before work I kept the “why” front and center. I’m doing this because I want to prove to myself that I can reach two big goals. I wanted to know that I can push harder, run faster and feel like I left everything on the course and didn’t hold back. And I did.
The “why” is a powerful tool. So find yours and watch the magic happen. Coupled with hard work because it’s not like real magic so you gotta put in the effort!
Now go run!
