Happy New Year

The rains let up where I live, so I could get out for a sunny New Year’s Day run. I’ve been running the first day of every new year for at least 15 years, maybe more. The only day that I missed was January 1, 2020. And you can see how that turned out.

Running has been a struggle these past few months. But because consistency matters, I get out for 3 short runs each week (really, really short). I also re-discovered my Peloton.

On December 11ty, after a neglectful 3 or 4 months, I hopped on the P and noted that I was at 175 rides. So with my running motivation in the gutter, I decided to hit the 200th ride by December 31st. With warm-up or cool-down rides added to my 20 min plus ride, I hit my goal on December 24th.

I’m currently on week 4 and have ridden for 21 days straight, so I head into the new year with my physical confidence building. It’s a good place to start as I roll into the new year and think about my intention and goals for the new year.

What’s the difference? I think of intention as my soft skills – listening more, connecting with friends, family, etc. Goals are specific actions such as a run streak, training for a race, hitting a PR on a lift, meditating daily, etc.

Have you set your goals yet? Do you have an intention for what you’d like the year to hold? I’d love to hear them.

Now go run!

Keli 🙂
