A 3-Step Plan to Crush the Holidays

If you’ve been a follower of the blog for a while you know that I have a habit of a long preamble. It’s part of my warm-up and part of my charm. But today I’ve got no time for that.

I have an action plan that will help you crush the holidays and start 2021 healthier.

  1. Schedule 30 minutes of exercise every day. It can be walking, hiking, biking, running, yoga, boot-camp classes, dancing, etc. Block out the time in your calendar and that’s your non-negotiable, sanity-saving space.
  2. At every meal fill half your plate or bowl with veggies, have a serving of protein and one of healthy fats. Some examples are: A tofu or egg scramble with spinach, mushrooms, onion, and zucchini, and avocado for breakfast. A huge salad with beans, avocado, all the veggies, chopped apple topped with nuts or seeds for lunch. A bowl of black bean chili over brown rice and broccoli for dinner. Don’t skip the carbs, don’t be fat-phobic. These all have a place in a healthy diet as long as you’re eating your veggies.
  3. Enjoy the foods that you love in moderation. Have the wine. Eat the cookies.

Wait! There’s more! The next 6 weeks are like a Tsunami. You think things are ok then all of a sudden you’re faced with an overwhelming list of things to do, things to attend. Here are some bonus holiday tips to help you thrive.

PLAN – If you have special events that you are attending (either IRL or virtually), plan your attack. How many drinks will you have? Should you have a plan of water for every glass of wine? What will you eat? Will you bring your own food? If so, what can you bring that’s in line with your healthier habits?

EDIT – Only eat holiday foods that you love. Christmas dinner is a great example. If you only like the mashed potatoes and stuffing but hate turkey or prime rib, don’t eat it. Eat only what you love or what you can only get at a certain time of year.

RE-SET – Meditate, journal, sit quietly and stare out at the trees, listen to Christmas Carols, or watch the Hallmark Channel. Don’t be too busy “doing the holidays right” to reflect on the true spirit.

Follow the plan above and I promise that you’ll wake up on January 1st feeling better and ready to launch yourself into 2021.
