Now is Good

Future Trip.  Futuretrip.  Future trip.  The process of delaying a behavior change because of an upcoming event.

“I’m heading on vacation in two weeks so I’ll start working out then.”

“My parents are in town and I’m eating out a lot so I’ll start dieting when they leave.”

“I have a lot going on, I’m so busy I just can’t think about it until after (fill in the blank).”

“It’s Friday.”

You get the picture.  But the truth; the hard, cold, bitter truth is that there is no right time.   No perfect opportunity to exercise.  No ideal moment to eat better.  Not a single minute in the next 365 days that will be better or more appropriate to take a step towards better health.

So now seems like as good a time as any, right?

You can take a huge leap forward or just a small step in the right direction.

But it’s not always seamless with, well life. You may have to get creative to make it work.  For example, I run with a friend a few times a week at 5:30 in the morning.  Not because it’s fun to run in the dark (well, it is, kind of) but we both have kids to get ready for school and employers who count on us to get to work and that’s the only time we can get the mileage in.  Luckily there are videos on demand, 24 hour clubs, etc.  See, options.

Eating healthfully seems to be another roadblock for many.  If you are the prime caregiver in your home you may be worried about your family eating the healthy foods you want to make.  I get it.

Start small and manageable.  Focus on eating the healthiest breakfast and lunches you can and then start adding more  veggies to your evening meals.  Instead of just a salad with the lasagna or take out pizza add steamed spinach, roasted cauliflower, veggie soup.  We, as a society, do not eat enough vegetables so if this is the only healthy step you can take you are moving in the right direction.

So whatever you are thinking about doing.  Do it now. You are too valuable to put on the back burner.  Today is a good day to start.

Now go run!

Keli 🙂
