I love to exercise. I love the feeling I get while I’m running or lifting weights. I love sweating. I love when I feel like I want to give up, but then I push through that. I love it all.
But like many of you, I can think of a thousand reasons to skip my workout. I’m tired, I have to go to work, I watched an extended version of VPR on Peacock, and I “missed” my workout window. It’s dark out, it’s light out, it’s too cold, it’s too hot. I need to color my hair. Blah, blah, blah.
So, I’ve found that the best way to get over that inertia is to not respond to that inner voice that wants me to stay in bed, on the couch, or in front of the computer and just go.
Go for that run. Grab the dumbbells. Hop on the Peloton. Pop on your earbuds and go for that walk. Just go. Will this make you feel better? Not immediately, no. So, ok, you have my permission to complain about it for a few more minutes (it’s too hot, I’m too tired, I need a snack…), but you still have to get up and do the thing.
Why is it so important? Glad you asked. I don’t know one person who ever finished a workout and thought they should have just watched another episode of RHONJ or slept in for 10 more minutes.
Because once you get started, my beautiful, strong, powerful friend, you will be 100% grateful that you did the thing. And the feeling that you have at that moment is what I want you to remember the next time the couch or the snooze button comes calling.
Now go run!
